Trick-or-Treat on Main Street
Saturday, October 25, 2025
4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

One of Stafford’s most beloved events! Each year, October is anchored by Trick-or-Treat on Main Street, a wildly popular (and fun) event that closes Main Street Stafford for a pedestrian-only plaza welcoming costumed families and friends to enjoy a safe and social Halloween event. For two hours - or until candy runs out – local businesses and organizations open their doors or set up tables along historic Main Street to hand out treats to costumed trick-or-treaters.

A Main Street parking ban will begin at 2:00 p.m.

A road closure will be in effect from 4pm-6pm (Roundabout to Route 140).

Stafford Garden Club Scarecrow Contest

Augmenting trick-or-treat activities, the Stafford Garden Club also hosts their Annual Scarecrow Decorating Contest; homemade creations line Main Street throughout the month of October and with final voting taking place during Trick-or-Treat on Main Street.

Special Halloween performance from the SHS Band & Color Guard Performance

at 4:00PM on the Haymarket Common stage!

Participating Businesses & Organizations

Want to participate but don’t have a downtown address? No problem—adopt a spot! Dress up your booth and your team, and join the fun! Businesses and civic organizations are encouraged to distribute treats from pop-up locations in Haymarket Common, along streetsides, and on downtown sidewalks. All participating businesses and organizations should be prepared to provide 2,000 pieces of candy. Registration closed on Monday, October 21, 2024, to receive important logistical and setup information, and to ensure direct communication with the event organizers.

Donation Drive

Since its inception, Trick-or-Treat on Main Street has grown exponentially and has become an annual destination for hundreds of families. This cornerstone community event is made possible only by the generosity of participating businesses and organizations. To help alleviate some of their sizable out-of-pocket expenses a candy, a candy drive is currently underway. Any brand/type is graciously accepted, but request all candy individually wrapped/sealed. Every bag helps! If you can help, please drop candy donations to Stafford Town Hall (front lobby) or call/text 860-331-0243.

Weather

If weather should cause unfavorable conditions, Trick-or-Treat on Main Street will be held on Sunday, October 27 from 4:00 pm - 6:00pm.

A big THANK YOU to our local merchants, businesses, community organizations, First Responders, and Town crews for making this event possible!
